Hi,
I’m Nikki Monaghan, a painter who lives and works from my studio in Falkirk.
I was born in Bathgate, then went to school in Falkirk, before going to the Scottish College of Textiles where I gained a BA (HONS) in Printed Textile Design.
I spent a few years working in the creative industries before becoming a full-time artist 15 years ago. I can’t actually remember any time in my life when I wasn’t being creative.
I love to paint Scotland’s villages and cities, and the odd red deer! My palette ranges from bright and bold, to more subdued. I try not to overthink this so I can let colour happen naturally. Layers of paint, ink, pen, charcoal and pastel are added to each painting, bringing a varied depth within my work. I use photos and memories for reference, and all my work is painted in my studio.
People often say my paintings takes them back to a time and place …. a memory. And, that it what I ultimately want to give the viewer…a connection, and a magical moment when viewed.
My work can be found in various galleries and publications, and in private collections worldwide.
Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you enjoy my art!
Nikki
